About us and our French carp fishery adventure
WINTER’S LAKE (Formally Le Lac Du Peupliers)
Welcome to Winter's Lake, our family run carp fishery here in Brittany, France! Our names are Adam and Whitney Winter, and we bought the lake in 2013, moving to France in 2014 to pursue the dream of owning a French carp fishery.
Our aim was to create something special and different from the usual commercial carp lake.
We take great pride in our lake and ultimately your experience with us.
We want to make your visit with us as enjoyable as possible so if there is anything else that we can do to help, then please let us know.
Our French big carp fishery is a family run business

“I have been fishing since I was very young, really getting into carp in my early teens. I also helped bailiff a couple small waters in West Sussex before we moved to France. It is nearly every carp anglers’ dream to own their own fishery, I was very lucky to be able to make this a reality. We found this lake advertised as a cottage with a lake and jumped in the car for a road trip to check it out! It wasn’t easy changing a privately owned lake into a commercial carp fishery, however, we were excited by the challenge. The previous owner had done a fantastic job, giving us a great base from which to start, and we have made many positive and considerable changes over the years. We still have lots of ideas and things we would like to do, just one step at a time”

“I have lived in many places around the world from an early age. I feel very lucky to have settled here and haven’t looked back since! I was not an angler before I met Adam but I was excited to learn more, so I am actively involved in all aspects of the fishery and I really enjoy it. I have learnt so much since we started and we both continue to learn as time goes on.
It has been hard work but we are very proud of our achievements so far. We wanted to create a great fishery, with a family feel, that people would love to visit and return to. We have put our heart, soul and all of our pennies into this place and hope you enjoy it as much as we do!”
One thing about us is that we are very invested in the safety of our fish, lake, and of course our anglers. We want you to have the best possible trip with us, so please understand that our rules are there for a reason. There are no rules that will restrict your opportunity to catch fish! It is vitally important that our fish continue to thrive in their environment, and for us to ensure they are looked after. This includes care during capture and handling, thereby safeguarding them and their surroundings.
Further extensive renovation in 2020 included removing over 2000 trees, which will help reduce siltation and stabilise fluctuating water levels, and adding hardstanding for vehicular entry and parking. This gives safe and dry site access, whilst keeping a more natural look for the lake surroundings.
We look forward to continuing on improving and implementing our ideas in the near and distant future!
